The #CapitalBCampaign on

I am a writer so my protests appear on the page. I have decided to follow in the footsteps of W.E.B. Du Bois and initiate an official campaign to get the New York Times and the Associated Press to officially change their stylebooks to indicate that, when referring to Black people, Black should always be capitalized. Always. Instead of hand writing letters, I’ve created a petition on to make my case and gather supporters.

I stated my reasons clearly in my opinion piece for the New York Times why I believe Black people deserve the respect of the uppercase on the page, and given today’s civil unrest stemming from the continuous onslaught of violence against Black people in these United States, I think this issue is even more salient.

if you feel so inspired, please visit my petition on and sign and share it with your own networks.

Thank you.
